Capital Letter

There are languages, like for example German, where every noun is written with a capital letter. English, as you might have noticed already, is different in this matter. Generally speaking, all words are started with a lower case letter, all but the following.

A capital letter is used for:

  1. The first word of every sentence.
  2. The pronoun I.
  3. The names of people.
  4. The names of streets, cities, provinces, states and countries.
  5. Languages.
  6. The names of places.
  7. The names of days, months and holidays.
  8. A person's initials.
  9. The greeting and the closing of a letter.
  10. An interjection or exclamation such as Oh! and Ouch!
